The story is about "Irish" Micky Ward (Mark Wahlberg), a struggling Boston boxer who with the help of his older brother and trainer Dicky Ward (Christian Bale), a former boxer himself until drugs and crime ruined his life, rises from local hero to national star and found instant immortality when he battled Arturo "Thunder" Gatti (Michael Reese Meyers) in an epic trilogy of fights that are regarded as some of the best boxing fights this century.
